This Father’s day, we’d like to share a touching story from our 2024 Father’s day magazine. It’s about a single mother who lovingly covers the faces of her daughter and late husband, a beautiful reminder of the enduring strength of family bonds. We hope that her story will inspire many of you!

As a single mother to my three-year-old daughter, Ayuri Armani, my life is a delicate balance of love, strength, and resilience. Every day, I navigate the challenges of raising a fashion-forward child while shielding her from the harsh realities of the world, especially after the loss of her father, Armand, to senseless violence in Philadelphia in August 2022.

Ayuri, with her innate sense of style and flair, inherited her father’s passion for fashion. From a young age, she mesmerizes everyone with her confidence and grace, strutting around in miniature designer outfits with a twinkle in her eye. Despite the absence of her father, Ayuri’s spirit shines brightly, a testament to the love and support surrounding her.

As her mother, my priority is to ensure that Ayuri’s journey in the fashion world is not overshadowed by the absence of her father. I strive to provide her with a nurturing environment where she feels loved, cherished, and empowered to pursue her dreams.

While the pain of losing Armand is ever-present, I channel my grief into fuel for Ayuri’s aspirations, determined to give her the best possible future.

Navigating the fashion industry as a single mother comes with its own set of challenges. From managing Ayuri’s schedule of photo shoots and runway appearances to juggling household responsibilities, every day is a whirlwind of activity.

Yet, amidst the chaos, there is a profound sense of fulfillment in witnessing Ayuri’s dreams take flight.

More than just a fashion kid, Ayuri is a beacon of hope and resilience, a reminder that love knows no bounds and that even in the face of adversity, dreams can flourish. Together, we navigate the highs and lows of life, finding strength in each other’s embrace.

As Ayuri continues to blossom into a budding fashion icon, I am filled with pride and gratitude for the privilege of being her mother. Though our journey may be fraught with challenges, I am steadfast in my commitment to ensure that Ayuri’s light continues to shine bright, illuminating the path to a future filled with endless possibilities.

How did you discover your child’s interest in fashion?

I started dressing my baby girl in big hair downs from birth. As she was old enough to dress herself she least wanted to pick her own accessories and she did it so nicely. She always matched. 

Do you find there are challenges in supporting your child’s fashion choices as a single mother(budgetary, time constraints, etc.)? How do you navigate these challenges?  

I believe Dressing girls comes easy to me when it comes to budgetary . When I find that there are challenges; pricing or out is stock styles I want, I usually support her fashion choices but styling her in plain or solid color clothing and dress them up with accessories like hair bows, pocket books, matching shoes and sunglasses. 

Has your child’s love of fashion impacted your approach to parenting?   

It hasn’t changed my parenting approach, however it allows for more binding time. Especially because at only three years old she asked to go to the mall. 

How do you have conversations about budgeting with your child when it comes to fashion choices?  

We haven’t had these conversations just yet. 

What advice would you give to other single parents raising kids who have a strong sense of style?  

Think outside the box. Everything doesn’t have to be expensive and allow your child to be creative and free. 

What are some ways you incorporate fashion into your quality time together?  
I incorporate fashion in my daughter and my quality time by talking about what color we will wear for the day, picking out matching outfits and having fun photo sessions.
